PROJECT
Silent Assistance
The inspiration for this collection stems from a curiosity about the profession of "doorman". By contrasting the upper and lower sides of New York, distinct characteristics of their uniform choices were identified. These doormen represent the iconic faces of their respective buildings, showcasing a spectrum of uniforms ranging from more tailored ensembles to oversized ones. The collection was initiated from a fascination with their vocational roles and the varying sartorial expressions they entail.

During the initial stages of development, the focus was directed toward the uniform lines, shapes, and resulting silhouettes generated as doormen move through revolving doors. The reflection of these elements also played a significant role. A fundamental commonality among doormen is their association with security. Therefore, emphasis was placed on this aspect, further supplemented by comprehensive research into the distinctive uniform attributes of other security personnel.

At what moments are doormen most crucial? It is when strangers attempt entry into a building, and in these instances, they assume the responsibility of preventing such access and ensuring safety. Through interviews and research, areas of doormen's uniforms that have experienced the most wear and tear were identified. By integrating ideas from the protective gear used in American football and other sports, the collection was developed to reinforce these specific areas functionally.
This approach created a new design collection that combines aesthetics and enhanced functionality with new fabric techniques.
